Why Timber Frame Construction Lasts Generations

February 2, 2026 · Woodly Team

When you invest in a Woodly Co. light post, you're not just buying outdoor lighting — you're investing in a piece of craftsmanship that will outlast most modern construction.

The Secret: Mortise and Tenon Joinery

For thousands of years, master craftsmen have used mortise and tenon joints to create structures that last centuries. This technique involves cutting a projection (tenon) on one piece of wood to fit precisely into a hole (mortise) in another piece.

Unlike nails or screws that can loosen over time, mortise and tenon joints actually get stronger as the wood seasons and tightens around the joint.

Why It Matters for Your Light Post

Our 11×11 inch timber posts are built using these same traditional methods. Here's why that matters:

  • No metal fasteners to rust — The joint itself holds everything together
  • Natural flexibility — Wood expands and contracts with seasons; the joint moves with it
  • Repairable — If damage ever occurs, traditional joinery can be restored

  • Built for Alabama Weather

From summer heat to winter storms, our posts are finished with UV-resistant protective coatings that work with the natural durability of the timber frame construction.
